Why do cookbooks include information such as weight and volume equivalents, food/culture history, buying, storage and food preparation guides, tips for success, menu planning, equivalent Celsius and Fahrenheit oven temperatures, and food substitutions etc?
Why are these sections in cookbooks?
Specific examples would be nice.

LJST asked:

I like Italian foods and tomato sauces. I also like Cajun foods. I love anything with spice.

I’ve never ate a salad before, believe it or not. I’ve always been too afraid to try them. However, I’m now going to make myself eat healthier. Based on the types of food I like, what types of salad AND DRESSING do you think I should try?

Also if you can please give me a description of what each dressing tastes like, it would be helpful!

I love salads when I’m out to eat. I love salad, I really do. Except when I’m at home. If I have stuff to make a salad at home, I have zero desire to eat a salad.

I think I just need to make it more appealing.

So, what do you put in a really good, but really healthy salad? What’s a good, but not too fattening dressing? I’ve heard that you need some fat in the dressing to get the full nutrient value from the salad. What’s the best choice for lots of flavor?
